Salzwände

Easy hike of about 15 km along the saltwalls to the Scharitzkehl Alm.

Todays hike started at the Sonneck, the top station of the funicular going up the Kehlstein mountain. One of our first sights today was a german hiker in traditional lederhosen and tirolian hat.
As it was such a beautiful day, we encountered a moderate number of people on this easy trail. The views of the Hoher Göll (2522m, below left) and Hohes Brett (2331m, below right) mountains were in front of us for most of the hike. Even the flowers seemed to be stretching for the rays of the autumn sun today.
Fresh buttermilk and homemade cheesecake with whipped cream (also fresh and homemade) made up our late lunch at the Scharitzkehlalm. A cool breeze helped us relinquish our chairs, return to Sonneck and take the funicular down to town.
