Day 6 |
Map is not to scale !
|
Great
ride today, awesome weather and no headwinds. We filled our waterbottles
at the fountain in Hontanas, then stopped for lunch in Castrojeriz, another
menu del dia with 'vino tinto'. The red wine in this region tastes wonderful
and is said to cure most everything. I am not sure whether I should drink
it or sit in it!
|
We
take the little road to Itero del Castillo, but we are unable to find
the refugio. It is siesta time and not a soul is out to ask: 'donde esta
el alberge de peregrinos?'
|
Someone
had told us about the nice private refugio in Boadilla del Camino, so
we decided to go on. Located next to the church, this alberge was truly
a refuge, with a large inner courtyard and plenty of hot water. The meals
served at the attached restaurant were delicious.

Refugios are located at:

Villabilla de Burgos: Tardajos: Refugio Municipal pequeno (very small) Hornillos: Refugio Municipal San Bol: Refugio sencillo Hontanas: Refugio Municipal Castrojeriz: Refugio Municipal Puentefitero: Refugio de San Nicolas Itero del Castillo: Refugio Municipal in a medieval hermitage. We could not find it, but a couple of German pilgrims did and said it was very nice. They said they found the hospitalier in the church. Boadillo del Camino: Very nice privately owned refugio next to the church. Lovely courtyard and the owner gave all of us a tour of his winecellar with a tasting. |
