Day 12 |
Map is not to scale !
|
As
we pedal up to the Cebreiro Pass, I am fascinated by the contrast of the
small towns; the farmers tending their fields with handtools versus the
high-tech construction of the new highway in the background. I wonder
how this beautiful area will look in 5 years. Unfortunately, Alto Cebreiro
is not the end of the climb, todays uphill lasts for almost 42 km, the
downhill starts about 3 km after Fonfria!
|
O
Cebreiro is a small mountain town with strawcovered houses. Next to the
church is the grave of Don Elias Valina Sampedro, the pastor of this village.
Don Elias is one of the pioneers of the modern Camino and has marked many
km during his lifetime.

|
The downhill goes right through to the far side of Triacastela, be sure to watch for the sign pointing to the refugio, it is located before the beginning of town while one is just coasting along. We missed it and had to go back uphill! |
Refugios are located at:
|
||
Trabadelo: Vega de Valcarce: Refugio Municipal O Cebreiro: Refugio Municipal Hospital de la Condesa: Refugio de las antiguas escuelas (in the old school) Triacastela: Refugio Municipal, located on the left before the town starts, if you get to the little grocery store on the left, you have gone too far. Look back and you can see buildings with blue awnings in the valley, that's the refugio |
