Day 1
Les Houches to Bionnassay
On the trail to Bellevue
After a stop at the grocery store to stock up on bread, cheese and fruit the journey started. We passed the cable car station to the col de Voza, gave it a short thought (NO, we are going to walk every inch), then took the trail that started just about 50 meters further. A woman watering the plants on her balcony wished us 'bon randonnee' as we passed her.
Bellevue
Our muscles, used to comfort and the gentle hills in Tennessee, started to complain after a while. But on we went, past the top cable car station and on to Bellevue. Belle vue it was, we admired the Mont Blanc from the West and had someone snap our picture in front of it.
After a lunch stop at la Chatelette, we continued on. We had planned to aim for either the chalet de Miage or the chalet du Truc refuge, but incoming clouds and cooler temperatures changed our mind. After passing a delapidated gate, we turned right towards Bionassay.
As we descended, we could see the Bionnassay glacier and the little bridge we would have crossed on the other trail. Next time!
We arrived at the refuge in plenty of time to do some laundry and have long, hot showers.
