Fiesole to Compiobbi
Take ATAF bus #7 to the terminal stop in Fiesole, pass the horse and rider statue on the right and take the little street that goes uphill (Via Guiseppe Verdi). At bifurcation go straight, at the next one left and uphill. Views of Florence to your right. next junction right and downhill, about 300 feet after the road goes sharply left, go straight here on a dirt path between rockwalls. Next junction left, and a few feet further left again then right. Take the next wmaller path going to the left and reach the top of Monte Ceceri. At an open area a monument is dedicated to Leonardo da Vinci. With your back to the monument, take the wide path on the far end and left of the open area downhill.In serpentines go down (shortcuts through the woods present also). At the T go left (national info plaque on the left) and reach houses and paved road. Right here to the main street, right on main street about 500 feet to a bus stop on right side. Take the trail to the right into the forest to a little road, right here, then straight on a dirt road. Pass a farmhouse, walk between olive trees, next junction straight, another farmhouse then forest. Next bifurcation left, reach a paved road and go right and pass church San Lorenzo on your right.
About 90 feet after the church turn left onto a small path (overgrown a bit), follow this trail (it will widen and go through olive groves) until it joins a larger path, go left and pass a farmhous. At the next farmhouse go left uphill in front of the farmhouse (between olive grove on left and forest on right, no markings until further up). Continue straight uphill when you reach a fence to the right. Take nect junction right and right agin, keeping this fence to your right, reach an open area go left and immediate right again until reaching paved road. Turn left in the direction Fiesole on this road (Castello de Poggio up on hill to the left), across from a building turn right and downhill into a path (Via Castel di Poggio sign and red-white #6 marking). Go downhill, take second path to the right (Y junction) and reach a farmhouse. Path turns to the right in front of farmhouse, follow path through olive groves until it reaches paved road, go left and downhill here. The little town Ontignano will be to your right, at junction you can go right to visit, then return, as the main path goes straight here red-white #5). Downhill to a creek with a waterfall, then continue uphill an this dirt road until you reach it's highest point. The red white markings point to the left to a trail in the woods, do not follow them but go straight on dirt road. Next junction right, in serpentines down to stream, cross the stream and continue downhill. You reach the little settlement Palatici and the road is paved from here on and leads in serpentines down to Compiobbi (shortcut 30 feet after first sharp righthand curve left through the woods). Gelato and bakery across from bus stop, take SITA bus (about every 30 min) back to Florence.
