Berchtesgaden's winter hiking trails range in difficulty from an easy walks to challenging climbs. With a visitor's card (available at the hotel when you register) one can obtain the free hiking pass (picture on the right) at the downtown Kurhaus. This pass lists about 50 possible hikes, a snowman marks the trails that are cleared in the winter. Each completed hike earns points and the total earns the hiker a bronze, silver, or gold hiking pin.
Some of the hikes are loops, others require one to take a bus at the beginning or end of the hike. A five day bus ticket for unlimited travel costs 27 Marks (about 13 dollars) at the Kurhaus.
